With legal cannabis being a multi-billion dollar industry in Colorado, it seems like every single week there is some kind of new innovative product or service hitting the marketplace. In this particular instance, it wasn’t a new cannabis product or service – it was a service provider offering new customers $500 in free herb for doing business with his company.
The owner of Masterpiece Roofing and Painting, Rex “the Roofer” Corley recently released a video on his company’s Facebook page telling everyone about his unique new promotion. The video features another roofer, Zach Blenkinsopp, who is oddly shirtless and wearing short jean shorts and a bowtie. Blenkinsopp appears like more of a Chip and Dale’s dancer than a roofer, but I’m not one to judge – whatever brings in the customers. In the video, Corley and his partner offer would-be new clients $500 in cannabis dispensary vouchers.
“Get a roof, get some weed. And let us turn your roof into a masterpiece,” Corley says in the video. A large smoke cloud can then be seen in front of Masterpiece Roofing’s company logo.
Corley and his company are giving away vouchers, not actual product – so the promotion is completely legal under Colorado. It does not appear that anyone has officially taken him up on the offer, but Corley thinks the response has been positive – with the video gaining over 100,000 views and hundreds of Facebook shares.
“It’s sure driven up the SEO to my website,” Corley told Westword. “One of my competitors came up to me over the weekend and said he was going to get a new roof from me now.”
Corley says it’s difficult to quantify how useful roofing promotions actually are. Even so, Masterpiece Roofing plans to keep to offer open to potential customers for the summer. If the customer doesn’t partake, the Corley also offers a $500 cash rebate.
“Our reputation’s really good. I don’t smoke weed, but if someone chooses to do that, that’s fine. It’s just like drinking a cold beer. I don’t have that stigma attached to it that other businesses would,” Corley said. “I just wanted to be the first at this.”
This is a great quote from an older businessman who clearly gets it. Kudos is due to Corley for being reasonable and honest about responsible cannabis consumption, even if he’s a bit off base in saying cannabis is the same as beer. It would seem that the majority of the responses to the video have been positive, with Facebook users sharing their approval of the free weed promotion. Corley also says that Masterpiece Roofing and Painting has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and an A rating on Angie’s List.
