Robert Nesta Marley has been the voice of Jamaican culture for decades. Bob Marley and his band, the Wailers, practically brought reggae music to the rest of the world. Born to a British Naval Captain and a woman from a small Jamaican village, Bob was relentlessly teased by his peers for his mixed race, derogatorily nicknaming him “white boy.” His often-difficult upbringing shaped a remarkable father, husband, musician and champion of Jamaican culture later in his life. Bob famously said that he was ‘not on the white man’s side, or the black man’s side. He was on his God’s side’. In our modern time of hatred and racial turmoil, many people could learn a thing or two from the Godfather of reggae.

It’s no secret that many Jamaicans and Rastafarians love the herb almost as much as they love reggae music, sometimes more so. It’s almost surprising, then, that it has taken this long for a line of legal cannabis to be sold under the Marley name. Especially because so many herb-loving celebrities such as Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson already launched their own brands of cannabis.

Marley Natural is being backed by Privateer Holdings, a private equity firm in Seattle. Marley Natural launched in states with legal cannabis this past Friday, which would have been Bob Marley’s 71st birthday.

“We are fortunate to be living during a promising time of positive change, especially with regard to cannabis and how people understand it,” Cedella Marley, Bob’s first-born daughter, said in a statement. “My dad would be so happy to see so many people appreciating the natural, healing power of the herb. We are thrilled to be sharing Marley Natural products with the world just in time for his 71st birthday.”

The Marley Natural brand’s cannabis strains will join a plethora of body care products already on the market, which include hemp seed lip balm, lotions and body wash. Marley Beverage Company also features a line of fine teas developed to help induce sleep.

Marley Natural’s strain roster will feature strains named after the Ethiopian flag, where Rastafarianism got its start. Marley Green, Marley Gold, Marley Red and Marley Black will be the starter strains for the brand, with each strain increasing in potency respectively. Marley Natural will also offer industry favorites like Sensi Star, Platinum GSC and Blue Mountain Fire.

The Marley Natural Company will also offer several cannabis accessory products such as pipes, bubblers, grinders, and breakdown surfaces. A beautiful wood-accented bubbler and black walnut wooden case are available for order online.
